Georgina is a young woman from the Andes whose daughter is stolen at a fake health clinic. Peru is at the height of the political crisis of the 1980s, and her desperate search for her daughter leads her to a journalist named Pedro Campos, who agrees to help with the investigation. Based on a true story.
Unlike Alfonso Cuarón's critically-lauded "Roma," which somehow managed to reduce its indigenous protagonist to a passive observer in her own life, Song Without a Name never loses sight of Georgina's pain or her agency - or its limits.
Song Without A Name is a true original, at once rooted in a raw emotional reality but told with the striking beauty of a dream. Writer-director Melina León is definitely one to watch.
