Towards Mathilde(Vers Mathilde)

Director Claire Denis takes an almost anthropological approach to her subject, French choreographer Mathilde Monnier, head of the Montpellier National Centre for Choreography, and her elite company of dancers. Using Super8 and Super16 cameras, cinematographers Agnès Godard and Hélène Louvart move among the dancers as they rehearse, capturing their movement with unusual intimacy.
