Set over four different time periods, the “early days,” 1914, 1918, and 1942, this film depicts the love story of renowned painter Pierre Bonnard and his wife, Marthe. As Marthe becomes Pierre’s muse, she appears in a third of his paintings, and their love and his work become intertwined.
