Jane Hudson, a secretary from Akron, Ohio, has finally made it to her dream vacation in Venice, Italy. She believes herself to be fiercely independent, vacationing by herself alongside her trusted film camera. However, loneliness soon sets in, only for it to melt away in the face of Renato, a handsome antiques shop-owner.
