Fear of the Cut

Cinephilia has its extremes, and one of the most intense and hopeless of these is undoubtedly Rainer Werner Fassbinder's In einem Jahr mit 13 Monden (1978). When we revisit the scene where Erwin/Elvira (Volker Spengler) and his friends are jolly dancing to 'Face the Music', a musical by Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, they also wanted the original scene from You're Never Too Young (1955) see. But a clip from that precious classic on YouTube has been disturbingly edited. The intervention betrays a strange “fear of the cut”.
