In the 1970s, the Iranian New Wave film movement blossomed as a protest against a local film industry dominated by Hollywood and European imports and unremarkable domestic films. After the 1979 Revolution, government censors banned the New Wave films, and effectively shelved half a century of Iranian film heritage.
