The Treacherous Coast - Michigan's Thumb Area

The state of Michigan, with its unique shape, looks like a mitten. Part of Lake Huron surrounds what is referred to as the thumb area. Because of treacherous rocky reefs, the coastline along Michigan's thumb area has claimed many ships sailing in these waters. Throughout recent times, man has installed navigational aids to help prevent maritime disasters.
