Based on a novel of the same name by Tsuneo Tomita about the legendary judoka, Shiro Saigo. Main character Sanshiro, a strong, stubborn young man, travels into the city in order to learn Jujutsu. However, upon his arrival he discovers a new form of self-defence: Judo.
