Gertrud is a former opera singer unhappy with her marriage to her politician/lawyer husband. In pursuit of an ideal version of true love, she ends her marriage and begins an affair with a concert pianist. When that doesn’t satisfy her ideals, the appearance of an old lover complicates her feelings even further.
