A delightful firecracker of a film with wonderful performances by Millie Bobby Brown and Helena Bonham Carter. While some parts of the narrative felt a bit slow or disjointed, the film really shines in its action sequences with troublemaker extraordinaire Enola. The overall plot could have used a tad more fleshing out (the ending didn't feel entirely satisfying) and Enola's family dynamics with her brothers could have been a greater focus of the film, but overall this is a fun, enjoyable movie to watch with friends, family, or just yourself!
Weird, irreverent, and absurdly funny, this movie is one of my favorite indie films. I love how it subverts the concept of religion in a way that's both fantastical and incredibly grounding. The intersecting stories of each of its side characters feels inexplicably human and real, despite the film's outlandish premise. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll cringe... and you just might walk away feeling a little lighter.
Incredibly moving and sad. A heartbreaking depiction of the loss of innocence and the dangers of an ignorant society. Despite the film’s melancholy nature, however, there are genuine scenes of sweetness and hope which provide a comforting balm amidst so much angst. Overall, a deep, powerful story about sacrifice, friendship, and the power of love to transcend time.
