The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is better than Netflix’s live-action series. While it’s by no means perfect, it hints at a smart evolution of a franchise that’s learned the right lessons from Geralt’s debut. It’s scarier, slightly more focused, and feels like a living, breathing world – monsters and all.

In the anime spin-off, the world of "The Witcher" expands as it follows the origin story of Geralt's mentor, Vesemir. Starting at Vesemir's first encounter with the Witcher world and ending at his meeting with a young Geralt, the film introduces new foes and younger but familiar faces.

The Hollywood Reporter by Angie Han
While the film is unlikely to hold much appeal for Netflix subscribers who never cared about The Witcher to begin with, it’s a worthy side quest for anyone with a passing interest in seeing more of the Continent.
It’s fun to see this world, with all of its inhuman monsters and monstrous humans, from a different point of view, even if it isn’t quite as refreshing or engaging as Geralt’s.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf isn’t a bad film, but it fundamentally lacks an identity of its own.
