Francisco and Rita meet up to remember a recently murdered childhood friend, João, who was a member of a subversive leftist organization during the Salazar dictatorship. After the revolution, he became a film producer, doing anything necessary to finance his movies. Before his death, he was filming an adaptation of Alexandre Herculano’s drama The Jester.
