Guimba is the tyrannical chief of a fictional village, and his son Janguine has been betrothed to Kani, from the powerful Diarra family. But Janguine wants Kani's mother, Meya, so Guimba offers to marry Kani, asking Kani's father for a divorce so that Janguine can marry Meya. When he is refused, protests and killings erupt.
