A university professor's life unravels after discovering his wife's infidelity, leading him into a downward spiral of alcohol and surreal hallucinations. Diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, he embarks on a journey to Ireland, seeking redemption and confronting his past before time runs out.
The absurdity of the film, interpreted as an allegory for the absurdity of life, strikes me as rather facile. Overall, the story relies on a mixture of tired family dynamics and superficial forays into what feels like fabricated tragedies like addiction, gun violence, and terminal disease.

With a fine balance of winking absurdity and wry humour – Cohen would tip his fedora to the born-and-raised Montrealer Bissonnette on that score – Death of a Ladies’ Man is a charming study of a man in crisis. It’s serious here and funny there.
