Director Sara Dosa
Genre Documentary

In Iceland, it is believed that underneath the country is a magical alternate realm of elves. This documentary follows Ragga, a "seer" who is purportedly able to communicate with them. When economic development threatens to destroy the volcanic rock that houses her beloved elves, she bands together with environmentalists to stop the construction.

What are critics saying?

80

Variety by Guy Lodge

Without trivializing the matters at hand, The Seer and the Unseen tempers complex national interests with droll human ones.

80

The Hollywood Reporter by Caryn James

While its mystical subject defies logic, Sara Dosa’s verite film is cogent and appealing thanks to a savvy strategy. Dosa respects Ragga’s beliefs without endorsing them, and positions her activism as a metaphor for saving the environment.

70

Film Threat by Alan Ng

The Seer and the Unseen has more to offer by showing us the kind and gentle landscape and people of Iceland. It’s best to take the movie for what it is at face value. If you’re the type of person, who just wants to mock an old lady, then you best move on to a different film.

63

RogerEbert.com by Nick Allen

Nature is the most fascinating element of The Seer and the Unseen, but Dosa is more focused on Ragga and the elves.
