In 1910s Azerbaijan, Muslim prince Ali and Christian aristocrat Nino fall in love despite their different backgrounds. Their tragic love story sees the outbreak of the First World War and the world’s struggle for Azerbaijan's oil. Ultimately, they must choose to fight for their country’s independence and to for each other.
