What are critics saying?

75

San Francisco Chronicle by Peter Stack

Though some of the acting has a stilted feeling, the emotional charge and unusual look of the film linger.

70

The New York Times by Stephen Holden

Lilies, an extravagantly mannered revenge fantasy by the Canadian filmmaker John Greyson, raises the level of protest at religious prohibitions against homosexuality into a piercing operatic cry.

67

Austin Chronicle by Steve Davis

In the end, while there's a lot to admire about the film, you don't particularly feel moved by it. Granted, it's a forgivable sin for which absolution can be granted, but one that nevertheless keeps a good film from being a great one.
