An old Peugeot goes through numerous owners before Simonet, a sculptor, finds it by the roadside, and refashions it into the figure of Agbo, the voodoo god, known as "The Night Watchman", under orders from the wisemen of Quassa. He then sends it into the lagoons in a canoe to watch over the Beninois people.
