The film culminates with her wind-powered voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to speak at the UN.
Whilst I Am Greta succeeds as a chronology of Thunberg’s meteoric rise from lone protestor to the voice of an international movement, a more nuanced, detailed and definitive exploration of this extraordinary teenager still feels needed.

As a summation of her remarkable achievements to date in public life, Nathan Grossman’s film is reasonably thorough, and sometimes rousing, amply showcasing Thunberg’s candid gifts as a truth-to-power speaker. Yet as a portrait of the girl behind the cause, it’s cautious and rarely illuminating, speckled with moments of domestic intimacy that nonetheless feel carefully vetted.
I Am Greta is a wonderful, rich documentary and at points it moved me to tears.
I Am Greta is not always as disarmingly open as its star, however, and keeping its focus so narrowly on the past two years robs it of some nuance.
What is so compelling is the picture I Am Greta pieces together of Thunberg herself.
