The problem with The Marriage, a well-meaning but structurally lopsided first feature from Yugoslavian director Blerta Zeqiri, is that the marriage plot from the title is so much less interesting than the love plot at its core.

When Anita and Bekim find themselves with an accidental pregnancy, they decide to get married. However, Bekim is secretly in love with his male best friend Nol. Bekim finds himself caught between two lives: his socially-acceptable life with Anita, and his underground life with Nol, which could make them both social outcasts.

What are critics saying?
It is a relevant, relatable and rewarding snapshot of how a society grows crookedly around its unresolved secrets, in the same way that a marriage can.
The Marriage shows us this problematic side of love with no judgment, which is incredibly refreshing.
Los Angeles Times by Robert Abele
Overall this is a solid portrait of time’s effect on what we miss, and how we miss.
