Ana and her two best friends, Maria and Paula,come of age in a small and war-torn rural town in Mexico that is ravaged by the conflict between the drug cartels and the government, where young women and girls are often the most at risk of coming under the cartel's wrath.

In 1997, Algeria is struck by female oppression, civil war, and terrorism. Young student Nedjma is determined to rise above this, dedicated to holding her own fashion show in a fight for her freedom and independence.

Veijo, a mechanic, has a second job euthanizing sick and old pets. Despite the grim work, he has a soft spot for the animals. One day, Veijo is given a dog to euthanize that he believes to be healthy. Unwilling to euthanize a perfectly able dog, Veijo adopts the dog for himself. However, trouble ensues once the original owner of the dog, a member of a white supremacist group, discovers the dog's whereabouts...

In 1989, Mozambique is a country ruined by civil war. The train that connects Nampula to Malawi is the only hope for people willing to risk their lives to exchange a few bags of salt for sugar. Amongst bullets and laughter, stories of love and war unfold as the train advances towards the next stop.

In the days following the surrender of Germany in May 1945, a group of young German prisoners of war are sent out to Denmark's West Coast, where they are ordered to remove the more than two million mines that the Germans had placed on the beach. Under the strict supervision of Sergeant Rasmussen, the young prisoners must accomplish this extremely grueling, dangerous task.
