In April 1975, civil war breaks out in Beirut. At first, the war is a lark to high-schooler Tarek: school has closed, he enjoys making Super 8 movies of the tumult, and getting from West to East is a game. But as he comes of age, the war moves inexorably from adventure to tragedy, and his family struggles with the difficult question of fleeing.
