Frustrating perhaps, but hypnotic if you can stick with it.

When the government destroys his neighborhood, Ventura, a septuagenarian immigrant from Cape Verde, is forcibly relocated to the squalid projects on the edge of Lisbon known as Fontainhas. There, Ventura ambles from place to place, reuniting with people he used to know, and roaming from his new home to the places he used to live.

What are critics saying?
If you are able to slow down to Colossal Youth's deliberate rhythms, there's a strong chance you'll be dragged in by the film's undertow and resurface completely mesmerized.
Sight & Sound by Jonathan Romney
Colossal Youth demands to be seen more than once.
Chicago Reader by Jonathan Rosenbaum
It’s unlike anything else I’ve seen: mysterious, exalted, demanding, leisurely paced, and very beautiful, and you’re bound to either love it or hate it.
New York Times by Manohla Dargis
Beautifully photographed, the elliptical, often mysterious and wholly beguiling film Colossal Youth looks and sounds as if it were made on another planet.
You need a bit of patience with director Pedro Costa.
