Yingzi Lin, with her parents, moves to Beijing, where they live in a tight-knit community. As she gets used to her new life, Yingzi spends a lot of time people-watching. She meets a madwoman, a playmate mistreated by his parents, and a man who steals to pay his brother's tuition fees.
