In a little provincial village, a new baker, Aimable, settles down with his young and beautiful wife, Aurelie. But the night after Aimable bakes his first breads, his wife runs off with another man. Aimable is so afflicted that he cannot work anymore, making her disappearance a problem for the whole town.
