Heidi, a young orphan, goes from living with her aunt to living with her grandfather in a mountain village. Known as a hermit, Heidi's grandfather grows to like her and she is content in the village. However, Heidi is convinced to go to Frankfurt to pursue her writing dreams, forcing her to choose between two vastly different paths.
