Violet Evergarden, an emotionally detached ex-soldier who received prosthetic arms after a combat injury, is struggling to settle into post-war life. Seeking work, Violet applies for a job as an auto memory doll—a ghostwriter for people who cannot write or need assistance with letters --- while she searches for the meaning behind her former commander's final words to her.
