Nafs Said

Nafs Said is a story about an Indian-Muslim housewife, Maryam, whose mundane life is abruptly interrupted by an opportunity to explore her desires. Maryam is a new immigrant in America and has always craved independence. However, the norms of her culture have ensured that she relies on her husband even for simple things like going to the grocery store. Despite this being a source of unease and frustration, Maryam resigns herself to a relationship that allows women to only participate passively. Nafs Said is a study of the rhythms of domestic life. It is a story of how women often mold themselves around religious and cultural expectations that exert a great deal of pressure on their beings.
