Artillery: The Gods of War

Traditionally the artillery has been the major killer on the battlefield. The task of the infantry and cavalry have been to fix the enemy in place for the artillery to destroy them with massed fire. Traditionally the horse and foot artillery did the job with field guns and howitzers. The bulk of fire has been indirect as a result of advances in technology and man’s understanding of ballistics.
