When Ze’s beloved donkey falls ill, he makes a promise to Saint Bárbara: If his donkey recovers, he will carry a cross from his city to Saint Bárbara's church in the state capital. When his donkey heals, Zé leaves on his journey. However, he is faced with a surprise upon arriving at the church.
