Based on events from a 1998 lawsuit, "Percy" follows small-town farmer Percy Schmeiser, who challenges a major conglomerate after the organization's genetically modified (GMO) canola is discovered in the 70-year-old farmer’s crops. As he speaks out against the company's practices, Percy becomes an unexpected hero for farmers across the world protecting their livelihood from what they see as corporate greed.

The New York Times by Jeannette Catsoulis

Sentimental and a little corny in parts, “Percy” is protected from bathos by Walken’s proudly minimalist performance as an intensely private man reluctantly drawn into an uncomfortably public fight.

60

Wall Street Journal by John Anderson

Percy Vs Goliath has a solid sense of place—the Canadian prairie—and Mr. Walken gives us a solid sense of Percy, a man whose instincts are so contrarian he sometimes seems unsure whom to disagree with, or what to refuse to do.

RogerEbert.com by Matt Zoller Seitz

Frustratingly poised on the knife's-edge of "pretty good but not as good as you want it to be," the movie might've benefitted from a more leisurely but focused pace that would've allowed the characters to breathe more, and the legal and scientific concepts to be explained with greater clarity.

Variety by Peter Debruge

While well cast and plenty compelling (including feisty turns from Christopher Walken and Christina Ricci), this reductive farmer drama deals in emotions more than explanations as it seeks to convey what it means for a little-guy grower like Percy Schmeiser to go up against Big Agro.

75

Chicago Sun-Times by Richard Roeper

Still, this is an involving and inspirational tale, highlighted by a Christopher Walken performance that is remarkably free of any showy tics or mannerisms and is a reminder Walken is a great actor first, a lovable caricature second.

63

Movie Nation by Roger Moore

Percy vs. Goliath is dramatically flat, predictable in its pluck at times. But Walken is magnificent, and the other casting — on the nose as it is (Ricci can still pull off the young activist willing to sleep in her car for the cause) — works.
