Kousei Arima was a genius piano prodigy until his mother's sudden death took away his ability to hear the notes he was playing and causes him to give up the piano altogether. Without music, Kosei's life becomes dull and monochrome, until he meets a talented violinist named Kaori Miyazono who has a carefree, eccentric playing style.
