The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner

In a poverty-stricken town in Northern England, Colin Smith, a rebellious youth who runs long distances for escapism, is sent to a reform school when he robs a bakery. His athletic talents lead him to not only rise through the ranks of the school, but to be chosen to compete against his school's rivals.
