A young man on the brink of falling in love gets his world turned upside down when he discovers he has the power to control fire and a connection to a secret society of guardians.
The film is both sci-fi/fantasy and Bollywood romance, an ambitious introduction to a mythological cinematic universe with the expected hiccups of building a massive world from scratch. It’s an admirable attempt and unmissable theatrical experience for any Bollywood fan.
Leads Kapoor and Bhatt have an excess of charm and style that leaps off the screen and grabs your heart.
Mukerji’s biggest achievement is getting this relationship to flourish, Kapoor and Bhatt being among the precious few real-life couples with palpable onscreen chemistry.
Neither the action scenes nor the musical numbers stand out though, and none of the characters or their performers transcend their expected roles.
A policeman’s family is murdered by a bandit, and he recruits two convicts to bring the bandit to justice.
