Insurance agent Burkhard Wagner has left his family in the hopes of building a better life for them. However, as the years pass and his only contact with them is through the answering machine, Burkhard begins to lose a sense of purpose. Only Caroline, who runs a roadside motel can help him find his way back to his life.
