Elena and Jake have a one-night-stand that flourishes into something more. Seemingly made for each other, they fall madly in love and are eager to start a family. But the fairy tale love story takes a heartbreaking turn when the couple is unable to conceive, making them doubt the possibility of a happily ever after.
It might do writer-director Harry Wootliff a disservice to call her mature, thoughtfully conceived debut feature Only You one of the latter, but the tinderbox connection between stars Laia Costa and Josh O’Connor is what elevates this grown-up relationship study from respectable to lovable.
Despite the generic title, Only You is an emotional treat, lit up by stellar charisma from Laia Costa and Josh O’Connor. And debutante Harry Wootliff is a filmmaker to watch.
